About Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya, meaning "City of Light," is a hill station located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, at an elevation of 1,868 meters above sea level. Known as "Little England" due to its colonial architecture and cool climate, Nuwara Eliya offers a unique experience that feels worlds away from the tropical beaches of the coast.

The town is surrounded by rolling hills covered in emerald-green tea plantations, creating breathtaking scenery. Founded by the British in the 19th century, Nuwara Eliya was developed as a retreat from the heat of the lowlands. Today, it retains much of its colonial charm with Tudor-style architecture, manicured gardens, and a racecourse.

Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country, and visitors can tour tea factories, learn about tea production, and sample some of the world's finest Ceylon tea. The cool climate makes it perfect for growing vegetables and flowers, and the area is famous for its strawberries and roses.
